While conducting more research for my ongoing project, I came across a blog post about a non-profit organization called Dog Scouts of America. Established by Lonnie Olsen, she created this organization to so owners and their dogs could have fun while creating bonds between individuals and all dogs included. The organization has hopes that their education of effectively training the dogs will reduce the amount of homeless animals out there.
Olsen is an example of my overall theme for this project because she, as well as all of her staff, have their dogs participate in on the action. They set an example of what they want done by housing and loving their own dogs, along with training them efficiently.
It is a great thing to see one person start an organization in hopes of bettering the lives of animals. This may not be her full-time job, but running and starting a non-profit business is a very hard thing to accomplish, and it looks like she is very successful at it. All in all, their pet’s well being and the well being of all dogs out there, are the influence on the creation of this organization.
Speaking of dogs…. last Saturday I interviewed a woman by the name of Barbara Wilson who has partnered up with her dog, Lilly, in therapy sessions. I thought my last interview was intriguing; this one blew me away even more. Her stories about all the things her and her dog do together almost had me in tears on at least five different instances. Wilson and Lilly have impacted the lives of so many, and this interview has really made me realize how much of a beneficial impact the collaboration of animal and human can have on helping individuals.
